We are Computer Engineers by profession working in different companies in Bangalore. We are interested to setup a diary farm in Kashmir. Can you please share with us some information regarding the same. We own land in different parts of kashmir like Jawala Pora (Budgam), Kral Pora (Budgam). How can we better analyse things pre venture, please advise. Appreciate! if you could share some kind of training material via email or any other means.
Hello, depending on the amount and locations of the land available with you you may setup dairy farms of varying strengths. As per standards of NABARD around 2 Kanals of land are required for a 10 cow dairy unit. While this is a standard evolved by a financial institution you should bear in mind that if you increase the land availability per animal – you will decrease dependence on outside inputs and thus increase your profitability.
Secondly, if you are looking for financial assistance it would be be helpful to look at Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme of Govt . of India and the Seed Capital Fund Scheme (under SKEWPY) of J&K State Govt. While the former scheme is run by Animal Husbandry Department the latter is operated by a separate agency Entrepreneurship Development Institute.
As far as pre-venture analysis of a dairy venture is concerned, the department feels that organised diary farming has a good scope and profitability – even more if you consider value addition like packaging and dairy product manufacture.
While the internet is brimming with information on various aspects of Dairy Development – we do not have any web based region specific training module as yet, however, we do organize free 2 weeks contact based training program for prospective entrepreneurs and you are welcome to attend.
Currently the training is being run by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute, however, we are planning to run in house courses soon and will surely intimate you when they commence.
